Make One Oriental Lantern Block
- Oriental Print: three 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
- Coordinating Solid: two 1" x 6-1/2" bars and one 3" x 4-1/2" bar
- Black Solid or Tone on Tone: two 2-1/2" x 3" bars and two 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" bars
Yardage for 30-Block Lanterns Quilt - 100% Cottons
Quilt Size: 70" x 84"Yardages assume fabric is at least 42" wide.
- Oriental print: 1-3/4 yards
- Coordinating Solid: 1/2 yard
- Black Solid or ToT: 3 yards (blocks, sashing, inner border)
- Outer Border: 1-1/2 yards
- Binding: 3/4 yard
- Backing: 4-1/2 yards
Cutting for 30 Blocks
Make one block before cutting all fabric. Instructions assume you are using one fabric for each position; cutting varies for assorted pieces.Oriental Print
- Cut eight 6-1/2" wide strips from selvage to selvage
- Cut 3-1/2" segments from the strips until you have ninety 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles.
Coordinating Solid
- Cut two selvage to selvage strips, each 6-1/2" wide. Cut sixty 1" x 6-1/2" bars from the strips.
- Cut two selvage to selvage strips, each 4-1/2" wide. Cut twenty-eight 3" x 4-1/2" bars from the strips. Cut two more bars of the same size from leftover 6-1/2" strips.
Black Solid or Tone on Tone
- Cut five selvage to selvage strips, each 3" wide. Cut a total of sixty 2-1/2" x 3" bars from the strips.
- Cut four selvage to selvage strips, each 10-1/2" wide. Cut a total of sixty 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" bars from the strips.
Borders, Sashing & Binding: Cut after assembly.
