America's 9-11 Memorial Quilts

Quilters Pay Tribute to 9-11 Victims, their Friends and Families

From Janet Wickell, About.com

America's 9-11 Memorial Quilts project was initiated by Jeannie Ammermann to honor victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Jeannie's desire to memorialize those killed evolved into a multi-quilt project that has drawn volunteer quilters from all parts of the U.S.

The non-profit group does not have a major sponsor, but small businesses have donated materials to make the quilts a reality. Other donations have come from individual members, along with their pledge to Never Forget.

The largest memorial quilt, America's 9-11 Memorial Quilt, includes every victim of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Called the Victims Quilt for short, it will be preserved at the National September 11th Memorial Museum, set to open in 2010 at ground zero.

Be sure to visit the group's Web site for more information and photos. And, take a minute to order their cookbook -- a fund raising project that will help them complete the remaining quilts.
